In March 2009 P.J.Cherian and Prof Istvan Perczel of Central European University, Budapest , expressed anguish over the demolition of an old church at Ramapuram in Kottayam. The demolition was justified by the vicar Fr.Mathew Nariveli who said that the old church structure was crumbling and unable to accommodate people.
